Your friend has been offered a place on a course at the university where you studied.

He/She would like your advice about finding a place to live.

  • Write an email to your friend. In your email
  • Describe where you lived when you were a student at the university
  • Recommend the best way for him/her to look for accommodation
  • Warn him/her of mistakes students make when choosing accommodation

Dear Betty,

I’m so glad to hear that you are going to the same university as I did. It is definitely one of the best universities in our country with lots of facilities and great places to visit.

You asked about the accommodation. I used to stay at dormitory A, which was located in the campus. It was a 15-minute walk to the faculty where my classes would be held. I had a small room to myself, a shared kitchen and bathroom alongside a small study that could fit around 20 students. The only problem was the long walk I had to take to the library to ask for books.

I strongly recommend you go to the same dormitory. It’s not far from your faculty and you can make you own food. In case you can’t find a place there, it is a good idea to go to the eastern side of the campus and take a look at the “rental board”. You can find families who are willing to share a room in their houses with you. Their houses are not usually far from the university.

Just make sure you see the place before you pay. The pictures on the university website and the ones families put on the board can be misleading at times. Also, never choose a place far away from your faculty. The transportation in that city is just a rip-off!

Can’t wait to hear more about you.

Kind Regards,

Mahdi
