Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

With the advent of the internet and telecommunication, people have shared more information in the last two decades than any other time in history. While some believe sharing as much as possible in science and business is advantageous, it is my firm conviction that some information should be withheld by company owners and scientists.

Sharing information in science and the academic world can boost the validity of scientific discoveries. Once researchers share their findings fully, other ones can scrutinize the information and point out possible faults of the researcher which can result in higher accuracy, and thereby higher validity, of the findings. Likewise, company owners can improve the financial status of their business by announcing their profit margin yearly so that they can attract more investors worldwide in the hope of gaining more money for launching their new business programs. However, it is evident that sharing as much as possible online with the world can lead to abuse of some information which is just too dangerous for the business and society.

Sharing some vital information by business owners can lead to creating stronger contenders that are likely to steal the market in near future. For example, if Coca Cola would share its secret formula for coke, it would not have progressed as much simply because other beverage companies would have used the information for their own benefit and made products with the same taste, stealing the market from the company. Similarly, sharing crucial academic findings, such as the blueprint for weapons of mass destruction, can lead to some underdeveloped nations being able to create extra-lethal weapons, with which they can create massacres around the world. These reasons convince me that not every piece of information should be shared with the world.

In conclusion, while sharing information in science and business can increase accuracy of the findings, as well as creating financial opportunities for businessmen, some sensitive information should remain secret to protect the company owners and the societies we live in.
